zero grace logins remaining we did not want the Yes / No option as the Windows Novell Client has. We wanted it so
that the user was required to change their password. Using a UNIX Bash Shell script, a solution was created.
This script queries the LDAP server for an attribute based on the cn of who is logged into the machine. This is
accomplished by using the UNIX command whoami. Since the value of this command is determined by the mapping
in Directory Access on the user record type with the eDirectory attribute cn, it was easy to tie this to the logged in
user. Some logic was done to compare and adjust the number returned by the LDAP query into days from today
and display options to the user. A link to this AppleScript code is contained in the
Additional Information Section
at
the end. It is titled “LDAP Expired Password”. Thanks to John Odom and Chris Ayers from
Escambia County School District in Pensacola, FL for revising and sharing their improvements to the code.
