I/O Kit
The I/O Kit is part of Darwin, the operating system foundation for Mac OS X. The documentation

ROM-in-RAM Architecture
The system software in all current Macintosh computers uses a ROM-in-RAM approach, also called
the New World architecture. For more information about this architecture, see Technical Note 1167,

Open Firmware
The software architecture implemented on current Macintosh computers follows the standard defined
